Sophomore Spring Semester Reflections

This past sophomore year, I was able to gain greater insight to my future career. As a Computer Science and Computer Engineering major, I had the opportunity to interact with both hardware as well as software. As a result, I have decided to pursue a more software related route during my academic career. While I will still have to take more hardware related classes, I will have slightly more software classes in comparison.

Aside from setting a direction, I have registered for a Java Class this past semester as well as an Algorithms class. For the Java Class, we worked on assignments to team projects ranging from dealing with multi-threading, creating a Ticket Selling website to using OpenAi’s API to create a chatbot that can be utilized as a teacher who would ask questions and verify the correctness of the user’s answers. Through these projects, I was able to gain experience dealing with frontend and backend developing. The group project helped simulate a professional work environment where we sprouted ideas, developed the idea with a focus on how our application would look like and then tested the result of our efforts and presented it in the end.

Outside of Academics, I also took a Piano Class for fun. I have always been interested in music and played the clarinet for more than 8 years which led to a desire to continue pursuing my musical interests. While I know the difficulty for piano is extremely high, whenever I watch professional piano players play a complex piece of improvise, I become in awe of their ability. Over the course of the semester, I was able to make progress in learning how to play simpler musical pieces and have realized the difficulty of playing with both hands simultaneously. Through constant practice, I have stepped foot into the realm of a beginner piano player and look forward to continue improving during my free time.
